In hiding for three days

Crap crap week. Don't want to talk about it. Just picture me here for 3 days and it will make me smile.

Three things I have had to give up to get my freelance work done:
1.A night out here on Saturday night with friends and my husband,(yes I did actually stay home and work instead.)
2. An organised night out on Monday night with this clever illustrator to help her celebrate the launch of a book using one of her illustrations. (So sorry Kim, I owe you a dinner!)
3. A FREE ticket to see this guy live in concert this Tuesday night. (Have fun without me Carly and Jo!)
And did I mention working 12 hour days on my weekend? Which turns into 14-16 hours during the week! No "glamour" in this industry! Just hard work! (But of course it's worth it, or I wouldn't do it!)

Work a weekend & holiday the next!

Am really tired tonight and dreaming of curling up in my own pair of pj's for an early night - so am off to do just that. (If I can manage to block out the sounds of my gorgeous husband yelling directions to his football team on the TV!)

Here's another one of my pyjama designs I worked on last year. A little different to my usual style of working, but I was really happy with this one.

I have a full weekend of work ahead of me with 12 illustrations due for one publisher, and a stack more for another. I am really over committed over the next week or so, but it will be worth the hard yards to get a reward of a weekend away HERE next weekend!Jealous? I just wish it was for longer!

It was a pretty cold weekend here in Melbourne, so it was a wonderful opportunity to stay inside by the heater and do some research for my Inspiration Monday posts. I have found some great new stuff and let me start things off with this talented artist:

Sarah is a recent graduate from Maine College of Art, and hosts a gorgeous little blog that features some of her craft and design work. Here's a bit of teaser for you...

...but be sure to check out her etsy store and blog for more details. (It's worth seeking out her felt crafts too!)
Click below to see some fabulous crafts from Syko in Finland, the very talented Karin Mannerstal, and some fabulous products from Uchi Australia.

I just could not resist this gorgeous pouch from Syko in Finland, so I just bought it! (Sorry, no more left! But do check out her fabulous website and the rest of her gorgeous products here at her etsy store!)

This Swedish designer has a background in Graphic Design, but has turned her hand to various product design opportunities, including some fun and colourful designs for IKEA. I love the simple and understated website that lets the images speak for themselves, so I guess I should just do the same.

Now for that Aussie touch that I can't resist each Monday! I came across this fabulous company at this cute aussie website.
From what I can make out, Uchi are originally an Australian company who are now taking on the international scene.

I have never head of them until now, but I just love their ranges. The website is very well designed and it's worth checking out some of the other great prints and products available through their site.

Check back next Monday for some more Inspiration.

I seem to be getting that feeling that my blog is turning into just my Inspiration Mondays! Let me assure you that I have been pretty flat out with both full time and freelance work commitments.

It's obviously tough to share any of these projects here (due to confidentiality clauses!) so I thought I'd share some old graphics instead. These were created for a toddler apparel range created earlier this year, and I just loved the colour palette in this range.

In terms of freelance work I am currently working on the last two covers for the "I'm Glad" series that I have signed up for. I am also working on "the other" book series with a special 6 book series promo coming up! Unfortunately due to my full time commitments I have not been able to take on all 6 books, (due to the short time lines) but I am thrilled to still be a part of them! I am doing all of the "group characters" illustrations which will keep me very busy!!

Be sure to check out my next Inspiration Monday post for a fabulous little crafty number I managed to find the time to purchase! I can't wait for it to arrive! It's scary how easy it is to order things on line!

My "uninspired Saturday" continued into Sunday, which resulted in me having an entire weekend off! I must admit it was wonderful, and I hope that my "mini rest" leads me into a productive week. Here's a few things to inspire us all!

I just love these belts from My Mimi.

Mimi is a New York based designer with a background in Toy design. Check out her website here for more great products like these soft toys and magnets!

Click on the link below for more FABULOUS inspiration!

I am sure that you don't need an introduction into the Designers Guild website, but I remember the day (MANY years ago when I was living in the UK) that I stumbled upon the Designers Guild store. I had never heard of Tricia Guild until then and I would have to say that I have been a huge fan ever since. I just love her use of colour and I wish I had the guts to turn our house into something from one of her books. Just writing the words makes me want to go for it! I just adore the floral wall paper below!

Check out some of the new kids collections below:

Here's a few things that have also caught my attention:

I'd love to add this tin (from here) to my collection.

I love the simplicity of this canvas art from Smirk.

....and who could resist this cool bag from Rush!

That's all I have time for today, but I hope you all have a wonderful week full of inspiration and fun!

Where have all of the ideas gone?

I am really frustrated today! I am meant to be starting a new freelance book project today, but I have been working a bit full on lately, so I just could not face it. I decided to give myself the full day off and would you believe I hit my studio for some creative play time! I have been itching for so long to sit down and do something creative for myself (just for the pleasure of it, rather than as a "job".)

The trouble is that I am overwhelmed! There's so much great stuff out there and I just don't know where to start. I want to try collage, and modelling clay, and felt pictures, print making.....etc etc.....I sat down in my studio drawing and sketching this afternoon but nothing seemed good enough.

I turned to reading some blogs for some inspiration, (but I am meant to be DOING rather than reading about what other people are DOING) and it has just left me a bit flat in the end!

I could not even get my Inspiration Monday stuff together today. Maybe I just need to "chill out" for a bit and let the creative mind just rest a bit.

So I will leave you with some artwork created for some pyjamas last year, rather than some truly brilliant art piece that I "whipped up" this afternoon!

I finally found some time to have a go at this weeks Illustration Friday topic! I have been focusing a lot on packaging with my new job, so my layout just seemd to flow into a product packaging concept!

Well it's been a bit of busy weekend, so I have not really had time to put together my ususal Inspiration Monday, but I thought I'd share a little about my weekend, just to mix things up a bit.

I am still managing to squeeze in some freelance work, and my latest project has been working with a Baby Apparel company. Here's a sneak peak at one of my earliest projects with them. It's from the Summer collection which is out in stores at the moment, and I am currently working on Winter 2009 with them.

I also briefly attended the Children's Book Council of Australia's National Conference and Expo to help promote my new book with Black Dog Books. The author Cathy Phelan was also there, and we were both so excited (and a little embarrassed!) to have been able to sign some copies of our books for some visitors to the stand!

I am disappointed that I did not organise myself to attend some of the seminars and talks featured at this conference, and it would also have been a great opportunity to learn some more about the industry. I will be sure to make more of an effort next year.

But before I sign off, (am going to run late for work if I don't hurry up!) I just wanted to share this inspirational piece that was part of the exhibition of original art from Children's books that was featured at the conference.

It's by Australian illustrator Jeanette Rowe and it just made me want to go home and get creative! It's a felt illustration from this book:

You may know her name from these wonderful titles:

Anyway, I came home from the conference all inspired and motivated to start being more creative at home, so I have started my Illustration Friday this week and look forward to sharing it with you a little later in the week. Will be back with my regular Inspiration Monday next week too!
Enjoy your week.
