After all of the madness and mayhem of the run into Christmas it's been really lovely to catch up on a few things! You may have noticed that I have FINALLY put up my new title bar! I designed it so long ago that I am already keen to update it, but it's a start! (Thank you to everyone who encouraged this!)

I also took the time to take advantage of some empty drawers (still have not unpacked all our boxes since the move!) and have given new life to some studio furniture with a new lick of paint!

I am really pleased with how they have come up, and the bright red adds some drama to the new studio! I also painted the filing cabinet, but the "metallic grey" just came out as black! Oh well, at least it looks neat now!

After suffering in 40 degree heat on Saturday (and with 42 degrees forecast tomorrow) we took pity on poor Maggie's winter coat and Ray shaved it all off!! She always looks hilarious during the first few days, so I just had to share it! I promise it grows back beautifully in no time!

This is just a glimpse of our Christmas table! It makes me smile because the "curtains" are the drop sheets we used when we painted the house and they are just nailed on at the moment! (Which is repeated throughout the house I might add!) I hope we can look back at this picture next Christmas and laugh, while we admire our lovely new curtains!

*Well, better late than never!

This is just a quick thank you to everyone who has stopped by to read my blog and share comments and emails with me. Thank you for making this once scarey venture into something that excites and inpires me. I am looking forward to sharing and developing this site with you through out the New Year.

Take Care and drop in again soon.

*Our lovely "new super fast" internet connection lasted exactly one week before a fault was discovered in the line, and we were back to the dark ages again! So, sorry for the lack of posts!

I have finally found time to participate in Illustration Friday again. This weeks topic is "little things".

Monday, December 10, 2007

Not to be confused!

I have just realised that my Monday post came up as Friday! Hhhhmmmm.....yet another learning curve in this blogging stuff! I started the post on Friday so that I would not forget about the new website I found, but did not finish it off and publish it until Monday! It really has been a week of "Inspiration Monday's"!!
Sorry for any confusion.

Friday, December 7, 2007

Well in the absence of me having time to create new and exciting illustrations to post, this bog is turning into one BIG "Inspiration Monday!". But as it actually IS Monday I don't feel so bad in presenting this one today!

Oooooh, before I forget - thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give me some feedback on my Inspiration Monday over the past few weeks! It really does seem to have inspired some of you and I know that some of you have also made some purchases related to these postings, so I am pleased that it's working!

Today I am breaking away from the local theme for a moment to share this new site that I have just discovered. I stumbled across it last week while looking for visual reference for an illustration job I have on the go, and I got totally side tracked by this great site.

It's called Design is Mine, and while it basically showcases great gift ideas, it also promotes some wonderful designers and products. The presentation of themes and ideas is a great source of inspiration for colour palettes and themed ranges.

No photos to tease you with (too many to choose from) but you MUST go and check it out.
If you are a bit short of time YOU MUST at least check out this amazing feature on the design and craft scene in Portland Oregon that was recently posted there. It is titled Part One, so I hope that Part Two follows soon.
(I have some relatives in Portland so this one is dedicated to you Sands and Mick! I hope we get to come and visit soon!)

Now as a lover of Melbourne and all things local I am already getting the guilt's about not taking the time to promote local (and let's face it - I need some sort of picture for this post!) so here is some great product from a local business called Little Chippi.

This is another business doing the rounds at local markets selling cards, magnets and wall art. They have a beautifully designed website that makes it easy to view products and place orders. The website is full of wonderful bright and colourful products and having seen this products first hand at a recent market, the packaging and presentation of these items just makes them irresistible for gifts!
More great stuff next week, (not sure if I will get to post on Christmas Eve which is the following week would you believe?!) and then I will be taking a slightly more personal approach with this feature in the New Year. Stay tuned.

I was planning on saving this for Inspiration Monday, but I am just too excited! Look what arrived in the mail this week! I finally got the courage up to place an order on line when I discovered that Property of Kelly had opened a shop.

This is how it looked when I opened it up! Don't you just love the presentation! Kelly was also kind enough to send an extra little surprise with my order by including a postcard of the gorgeous "Three Bunnies" illustration I was admiring on one of her previous posts! I was SO excited!

Here is the contents of the package - a cute little collection of four of the "Hiker Girl" cards that were always my favourite! I plan to frame one of them with the bunnies, and save the others for a special "card required" moment!

Kelly currently sells a fabulous collection of cards at her online shop and her blog is one of my favourites so if you have not already checked it out, be sure to make some time soon!

I am still flat out with projects (which is wonderfully exciting - I am already starting on the second book in the new series I have just under taken) and I have some pretty tight deadlines over the next few weeks. I will try to keep you posted on my progress. I can't wait to share the book details with you soon and I am really pleased with how the illustrations have come together. Stay tuned....

I have a lovely little back log of things I would like to share in this segment and while I do not intend this feature to be just about product, I could not help but share this local little company with you.

I discovered Library Plus at a market in the city several months ago and promptly bought a library bag and some cards. They specialise in hand crafted stationery, library bags, pencil cases and other great accessory items.

I love the gorgeous graphics and the clever use of colour in all of their products.

While the website is a little simplistic, there is a lovely little introduction to the characters who adorn the product, and it is worth downloading the catalogue to check out some of their great products.

Contact them here for more information or to make a purchase.
Next week I hope to take a slightly different approach to "Inspiration Monday" so check back in next Monday for another chance to get inspired into a new week.

NEW STUDIO: I thought it was time that I gave you a glimpse of the new place and my gorgeous new studio seemed the obvious place to start. I will show you some of the rest of the house later on but we still have not really unpacked and set up properly.

I can't wait to get some things up on the wall and to get my inspiration pin board up and going. I still have to bring my big art drawers over and and a few other things, so no doubt I will post some pictures of my progress.

I just love this drawing table! My gorgeous husband gave it to me for my birthday and I have been wanting to give a permanent home where I can leave it set up all of the time. It's just wonderful to have the space to finally do that.

And on the drawing board today is an exciting new project I have just started this week. I am so thrilled to have been approached by a new book publisher to illustrate the first of what we hope will become a new series. I obviously can't say to much, but it's my first full colour book and I am so excited! As usual it's a pretty tight deadline so I am still pretty flat out, but am just loving it! Sorry no pictures, but it's due out early next year, so I will of course do a feature on it then! YAY!

Have a wonderful weekend and I am off to check my files to see if I can pull something together for the Illustration Friday topic! It's such a great theme this time (ZOO) but I just don't seem to have enough hours in the day to keep up with it!

Monday, November 26, 2007

Yes - we finally have a phone connection at our new place so this sees the welcome return of Inspiration Monday.

I also have lots to tell you, so hopefully over the next week or so I can post some images of my lovely new home, get stuck back into Illustration Friday, and reveal some details of an exciting new project that I am about to undertake.

But until then, it's Inspiration Monday time:

Sticking with my local theme, I wanted to show you some gorgeous products by a local company called Little Kitchen.

They not only have a wonderful range products such as hampers, and aprons but they also offer organic cooking classes for children and teenagers. Some of their products are exclusive to their website, while others can be found at their store in North Fitzroy or other selected stockists.

Check their website for full details and some great Christmas gift ideas.

Making up for a few missed Mondays, I thought I'd continue the "food" theme with some great products I re-discovered over the weekend on a day trip to Daylesford in Victoria. Lark is actually based in Daylesford and their workshop creates fabulous vintage handcrafts.

These doughnuts are actually baby rattles and are just irresistible!

Craft lovers will enjoy the vintage fabrics on sale through their website, and it's worth spending some time exploring this site!
That's all for now, but check back in next week for some more cool stuff.

No I am not back on line yet, but I found myself with a free afternoon (FINALLY!) to access the internet and discovered that the lovely Kelly over at Property Of Kelly had tagged me to reveal 5 things about myself so I thought it would be a great excuse to post again this week.

Please forgive the self indulgence, but I have not posted an image for so long that my page was looking boring (hhhmmm must put up that new banner I designed a few weeks ago) so I found a vague enough link to use this image:

So here we go - 5 Random things about me:

1. I love the beach, but am scared of seaweed!
I can't stand things brushing up against me in the water, and hate the thought of getting tangled up in sea weed. Despite being a strong swimmer I rarely go out beyond where I can touch the bottom. My husband has introduced me into boogie boarding (which I love), so am getting braver.

2. This one is sort of related to the above, but I have REALLY soft feet! I mean soft "bottom" of my feet! Once again, despite growing up in the country I ALWAYS wore shoes! I even swam in the river in shoes! (Maybe this is why I hate the whole seaweed thing!?) Now can barely even walk on grass without shoes! I feel every little prickle or stone and just wind up screeching "ouch, ooh, ah" the whole time....hhhmmmm yes this can be a problem at the beach with the shells......hhhmmmmm not much of an Aussie am I?!

3. I have this weird thing (as if the previous two weren't weird enough!) about eating tomatoes! I will eat them "in" foods like spaghetti, or in a salad sandwich, but I wont eat them on their own. If I eat a salad I will only add tomatoes on my plate for colour so that the meal looks visually pretty and appealing! And you know what - people always notice that I have left them on my plate at the end and ask me why I don't like tomatoes.....and it just gets too hard to explain....even now I can't explain why!

4. I ALWAYS take a jumper (pullover, sweater...etc for you internationals!) with me where ever I go! Yes even in Summer. I cant stand being cold and even in summer the air conditioning can be too cold for me, or in Melbourne the weather can change so quickly, therefore, I always travel prepared!

5. It's been about 10 years since my legs have seen the light of day! I pretty much where jeans EVERY day regardless of the temperature. Can you imagine how much light my legs reflect when I do actually get them out in the sun (there's that whole beach thing again - no chance of anything ever really brushing up against me in the water as the glare from legs scares off anything within a five mile radius anyway!!) I have been trying over the last year or so to wear things other than jeans or pants, but not doing too well. This summer I am going to try to buy (AND WEAR) some shorts! (And yes those of you in my netball team should feel privileged to be glimpsing my legs for 40 minutes once a week - it's a rare sighting!)

Sorry to write a novel but it turns out I am more weird than random, and I felt the need to explain everything....I really am normal deep down!?

So here are the rules:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.

2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.

3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as wellas links to their blogs.

4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

....and as it turns out I have been off line so long that I appear to be the last on tagged for this (or I really do have no mates!) and most of my blogging friends have already had this one, so here's my incomplete listing of people I tagged:

Shannon Who "forgot" my previous tag for the Design Meme workspace thing, so who now owes two tags!

Lara Whose blog I am quite new to, (and am still a bit shy to leave comments on).... but I really enjoy reading and would like to know a little more about in a Random/Weird sense!

Leslie Another blog I frequent but am shy of commenting on - she is another very talented crafty Melbourne-ite

But check out these guys who have already been tagged - there's some funny reading amongst this talented lot too:

Well I can not believe how much I am missing blogging! For someone who was so nervous about even starting this, I am now really missing it! We are still not connected to the phone at our new place! The phone guy came out to connect yesterday, only to discover that the external phone lines out on the street had not been linked to our property yet! It's a bit of a waiting game now to see when they can do this!!

So unfortunately I am still limited as to when I can do my posts! But in a sense it has worked out really well. I am flat out at the moment with work and we have not even had a chance to move all of our stuff yet! It's been pretty busy socially too (FINALLY!) so it's been a bit crazy all 'round!

I am working on another season of pyjamas and am so happy with how the have come up! I think the are my best yet! Am planning to ask permission to be able to post some of the images soon, so will let you know how I go.

This Friday night I am attending a cocktail party with the book publishing company I am working with so it should be a great chance to network and to meet some of the other illustrators and authors. I hope I can tell you all about it next week.

I am missing Illustration Friday too, so am hoping all will be back to normal next week.

Check back soon.

Well we have officially moved into our new house (I promise to post some pictures and a proper write up on the whole dream like experience soon - it still feels like we are holidays in someone else's house!)...but we still don't have the phone lines connected. I have managed to get external access today and hope to be up and running again by the end of this week....maybe even broadband!!? Eeeh-gad, yes it's true! I have been on dial up this whole time!!

Sorry to everyone who was expecting my "Inspiration Monday" posting this week! I promise I will make up for it asap with a special extra large feature.

More news in a few days......

IT'S OFFICIAL: We are moving!

Dear Raymond J,

Thank you for being so focused and working so hard to make our new home a reality. We have put our lives on hold for this entire year and worked so hard EVERY weekend to literally build our dream, and you are truly an inspiration.

We have learned new skills, such as plastering, woodworking and painting, (as well as problem solving and negotiation!) and in return have grown and developed in our relationship. It is an honour to be your wife and I adore being married to YOU - my best friend. I can not wait to start this new phase of our lives together and to make our house a HOME.

I love you.
Your D

*And for all readers (in case you haven't worked it out yet) we now have the official sign off on the completion of our brand new house and are FINALLY moving this weekend!!

**Once again thank you to our parents, family and friends whose lives we have also interrupted to achieve this dream. Looking forward to repaying your hospitality and patience in our new place really soon - and yes I promise not to cook - it's catering all the way!! (Just kidding?!)

Welcome to a wonderful new week! As promised, I am starting off the week with my 'INSPIRATION MONDAY' posting in the hope that it will motivate a week full of ideas and creativity for all of us!

I just love living in Melbourne and I can't help but focus locally again this week, so here's a few things I discovered on a visit to the Kids In Style trade show I attended earlier this year. It was part of the Life in Style trade show which is coming up in Sydney next, during Feb 2008. Check out this link for details.

This was my pick for the whole show! These gorgeous bean bags are from Cocoon Couture and are made from vintage fabrics that feature cute appliques on pin wale cord. I would love to have a couple of these in my new house, and I also just LOVE the beautiful wooden tree in the background of the photo! I want one of those too!

Cocoon Couture are based in Torquay, Victoria and they also make other great kids products such as library bags, cot quilts and gift cards. Check out their website to place your orders, look for stockists in your area, or to just search for more great products.
Don't forget to check in again next Monday for another "inspiration" hit to start off your week.

Having just done my submission for the Monster Mash competition over at Penelope's blog, I found that I really enjoyed this topic and could not resist the urge to bring a little of it into this weeks Illustration Friday topic!

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

....because GIRLS can be monsters too!

This was created for a "Monster Mash" competition being run by Penelope over at her blog. It's such a great theme that I could not resist having a go at this one!

A special thank you to Alicia for alerting me to it!

Part of my intention for creating this blog was not only to share my work and ideas, but to share what motivates and inspires me.

So I have created INSPIRATION MONDAY. I am going to trial it for 4 weeks in the hope that I can keep it up every Monday. My intention is to feature people, places and things that I find inspire me to want to pick up a pencil, a paintbrush or even to dust off the sewing machine!! (Ha, would like to see that!!) The common thread will generally be "kids stuff" as I am pretty passionate about this area, but then ideas come from everywhere, so let's see where it takes us.

Today I am starting things off locally:

Aren't these gorgeous?! Created by my clever sister Jo for the Christmas Craft stall she organises each year for the fete (among a million other activities she juggles!)

So simple, yet so gorgeous. Wouldn't these look wonderful hanging from a freshly wrapped gift.

My Mum and my sister's friend Joyce also pitched in with their clever skills and here is a bit of a collection of some of the other great pieces on offer!

So - check in again next Monday to get the creative juices flowing!

Desktop Meme

I have been "tagged" for the first time, by the lovely Alicia from my place over the hill. (Thank you for yet another learning opportunity Alicia!)

So from what I understand this means that there is at least one person out there curious about my workspace. I have sort of extended the interpretation of this tag to give you little taste of my work environment!

So, this is my little room where all the creative stuff happens, and this is what I stare at most days! I love working infront of a big window looking out into my backyard. I have also "filled an awkward space" with something I was thinking of using for my title bar on this blog. What do you think? I would welcome any thoughts on this!

1. I am always printing out and collecting things I love from what I find on the internet.

2. Incase you haven't noticed, colour is my favourite design element and I am constantly collecting colour palettes that I love. I have a little tin of colour chips from the local 'Bunnings" that I use to put together palettes!

3. OK, so not technically in my work room, but it would not be a day at the office if I did not burn the bum out of the kettle and set off the fire alarm! (Must get an electric one that turns itself off!)

4. I resisted the whole 'Wacom' tablet thing for so long, but when my husband bought me one for my birthday I could hardly knock it back now could i?! Now I couldn't live without it!

5. Couldn't get a decent shot of this cupboard, but it's my favourite! I was my grandmothers and it's full of lovely paints, sketches, ideas and other cool arty stuff! Hhhmmm I should visit the contents more often!

6. Boxes - yep. Have started packing up my work room in an attempt to feel like we really are going to move into our new house at some point in our lives!

And of course it would be impossible to work without the company of our gorgeous Maggie. She has almost fully recovered from her scare a couple of weeks ago, thanks to the diagnosis of Addisons Disease and the wonderful world of medication that she now needs to be on for the rest of her life! It's so good to have her back!

She's sleeping on a cushion I made years ago when I used to do the craft market scene! Ahhh, there you go - didn't know I could sew did you?! (as well as any self taught crafty I guess!)

And now I in turn would like to TAG the lovely Shannon over at Aunty Cookie. If you are not already familiar with this hilarious crafting and design genius get over there and check her out. She's a local Melbournian and a wonderful freelancer I used to use back when I had a "real job".

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Wow - I just need to indulge a little with this posting sending a special BIG HELLO to a long lost friend SPANNA....(Anna!). Anna and I became great friends many years ago when I was living in England. We lost track of each other and I have been trying to find her recently - even sending a good old fashioned had written card to the last address listing I had.

Well through the joys of modern technology (not to mention Anna's wonderful memory for my business name!)...she found me via my blog!

Some of you may remember my fear of starting this blog, but it has already paid off, by putting me back in touch with an old friend! THANK YOU ANNA - looking forward to hearing more about your wondeful family and all of your news over the last few years!

Well living in Melbourne we have weather EXTREMES, so it just seemed the obvious choice. It has been known to drop 10 degrees in an hour and we always know to be prepared for anything living here! I never leave the house without a jumper (yes even in summer!) as I hate being cold. This always amuses people when I travel and continue with this habit!!

So, continuing on from my "book" approach to this challenge, (and a well noted comment from Tracy on my previous IF: OPEN ) ......"opposites" seemed to really suit this simplistic approach, so I could not resist continuing the pages. Thanks Tracy and I hope you enjoy this one too!

When you wish upon a star

I have been leaving comments (on some of the blogs I have been reading) about how much admire sketches and working drawings, so I thought it was about time I posted some of my own. This is a character sketch that has evolved and developed into a couple of other characters, but there's something I like about this sketch that was not captured in my computer adaptations of this one!
And the thing about wishing on stars - it's true! We have had a really big WISH that we have been trying to make come true recently and the good news is that it just might happen!
So here's an update since my last post:

1. WE NOW HAVE ELECTRICITY at our new house! The electrician finally came yesterday, so last night we went and turned on *EVERY light in the house! We are SO close to moving now! An inspector from the council is coming tomorrow to give it a once over, but it looks like it could happen this weekend!! FINALLY! Will keep you posted!

* (Only briefly, as we are actually very aware of trying to be energy efficient etc!)
2. MAGGIE'S DIAGNOSIS: We finally have an update on Maggie. Our vet has confirmed Addison's Disease. I don't really know much about it, but I am meeting with the vet today to learn more, and to find out how we can now manage it. This should improve her kidney functions from what I am told.

3. PYJAMAS: Had the final sign off of pyjama ranges last week, and all artwork and documentation has now been sent off to the factories. Can't wait to get some strike offs! I am now working on a budget pyjama range for the same client, and have HEAPS to do before another meeting with them tomorrow! Yep - that pressure thing again that I thrive on!

4. NEW PROJECT: I have been invited to a meeting with one of my clients later this week to consider working on a brand new project that they have on the cards. Can't say much at this stage, but am excited and will let you know how it develops.

That's all I can think of at the moment, except that my wonderful parents are visiting this week from the country, and I hope to find the time to spend some "Quality time" with them!

A special thank you to my "IT" specialist (that's you Raymond J) for encouraging me to create links to previous posts so that new readers know what on earth I am talking about!

ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY - OPEN WIDE! I am getting in early this week as I have a busy week lined up! I thought this could be quite cute as a page in a book, so I could not resist adding the text.

Monday, October 8, 2007

Ok - I admit I am out of control! Two posts on the same day! Who would have thought I would have so much to say!

I really do intend to focus on my illustration and day to day freelance life in this blog, but there is just so much going on outside of work hours at the moment that it tends to be stealing the limelight so to speak.

Well, it's going to be another busy week of work. I somehow (over the weekend) managed to finish the internal illustrations for the current book project I have on the go. (Yes, Raymond J. it WOULD have something to do with the fact that I gave up the wonderful opportunity to work at our house on Saturday to work at home instead!!) It has a really cool "flicker" running sequence that animates the characters running in the bottom corner of the pages when you flick through the book (which took me ages, but am REALLY happy with!).

Today I am back to the pyjama project. I am really excited with how it has come together, and already can't wait to see some strikes offs and samples which is always a good sign when working with product.

...yes this IS a photo of a toilet! For those of you who know me this image will not be lost on you! YES WE HAVE A FUNCTIONING TOILET IN OUR NEW HOUSE!!

I have been meaning to blog about this all week, but things were a bit preoccupied with Maggie as you know!

We have been building a brand new house for nearly two years and are REALLY close to finishing and moving in. If only we could get the tradies to turn up! (Don't even get me started on that one!)

We went to "lock up "with a builder and have done the rest ourselves - that's the ENTIRE interior! (ah, yes - hence the TWO years!) So this is what we get up to EVERY weekend (of this entire year so far), and why we have totally fallen off the social calendar! (Special thank you to Rays parents for pitching in on EVERY one of those weekends, and for my parents for giving up holidays and coming down from the country to help out.)

On the plus side, I can now add "plasterer" to my resume, not to mention painter, interior decorator....etc etc.

Check out the lovely message in the driveway cement written by one gorgeous Raymond J. And don't you just love the river view!?....and, yes - this DOES mean a new "studio" for me!

Illustration Friday - The Blues

I very rarely illustrate people but the events of this last week have inspired a self portrait of sorts!.....Hhhhmmm, I never could do anything with my hair!

Maggie update

I could not bring myself to post anything yesterday. Maggie was so sick. We brought her home after the ex rays and she just did not seem to recover from the anesthetic, and in the morning when she still could not stand or walk, there was a teary dash back to the vet.

I can't remember if I have mentioned that we got her from someone who could not look after her anymore, and we were told that her dodgy front leg was a deformity that she was born with. Well the ex rays have shown that it was actually a pretty nasty fracture that was not repaired. This was pretty devastating to hear!

We were still convinced that her illness was more than the front leg (which she actually seems to manage pretty well) and further test have indicated kidney failure. She needs to stay at the vets for a few more days and they still need to do some more tests so we still aren't sure of anything yet. I guess will I (try) to keep you posted.

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Am I the only one who books in meetings knowing there's a chance I wont actually have anything ready to present?! I don't know why I put this pressure on myself - well I do actually! I am one of those people who thrives under pressure! I really need a good tight deadline to get things done!

So, I have two days to complete *7 new pyjama ranges! Hhhhmmm. It's been done before, and somehow I always seem to pull it off, and if can keep the procrastination bug at bay I just might actually do it again this time. (ey?...who did you say is on Oprah today?!!) JUST KIDDING.

Thank you for those who left kind comments about Maggie. She is at the vet today getting some ex rays which we hope will give us some answers about how to help her. She was slightly brighter this morning which was great (although admittedly that changed when she realised I was leaving the building without her!) Gawd - I really am going to be hopeless if we ever have kids! How do you "real" parents do it?!
PS - I promise I will work on my fav blog links and inspirations! I know it's looking a little sad at the moment, but I really do have so many to put up!

*Sorry - I don't own the copyright on the designs I do for these guys so I can't give you a glimpse of the work in progress. But if you are in Oz check out David Jones and see if you can recognise my style in any of the pyjama collections.

Monday, October 1, 2007

Well it's been a weekend of mixed emotions. Thank you once again to everyone who left comments last week. I have had my first taste of blogging and the fear I initially felt is starting to give way to excitement.

A special thank you to my gorgeous husband whose amazing comments and support have brought tears to my eyes (and I hear I am not alone in this!) I guess I have approached this with my usual caution in not wanting revealing too much about myself, and then I read the beautiful words from one "Raymond J" and was reminded how important it is to just be yourself! (I have so much to learn from him!)

Anyway - back to the weekend. I had grand visions of doing a proper feature on our beautiful dog "Maggie" and to give you a little insight into how amazing she is, but she has been pretty sick recently and the last few days have been pretty bad.
I took her to the vet on Friday and he suspects she is in pain. He gave her an injection that was supposed to help her get through the weekend a little easier, but I think she's worse. Am just waiting for the vet to open up this morning and I will have to take her in for another assessment.

She is a standard poodle (isn't she gorgeous!) and we have had her for exactly two years today. We think she is about 4 or 5 years old and we got her from a family who could not look after her anymore. We believe she was born with a bow in her front leg (which is quite distinct when she has shorter hair) and we were warned that she could develop arthritis early, but I was hoping it would hold off a bit longer. Anyway, I suspect that's what's going on at the moment, but we will have to wait for confirmation I guess.
Despite our concern for Maggie, we did have some exciting developments with another big project we have had on the go for some time (and I have not had the chance to introduce you to yet), but will save that for later in the week. There's only so much you can read in one sitting!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANKYOU to everyone who commented on my illustration Friday post! It's only 6:30 in the morning here and I could not sleep, so I decided to see if anyone had commented on my last post and am suddenly VERY AWAKE! It was such a buzz to get comments from all over the world, as I have only started this blog this week and these were my first EVER comments!

I just need to work out how to reply to each of you properly to thank you! I am learning more each day so hopefully I will be a wizz at this in no time! Check out some of the blogs from people who commented on my last post if you get the chance - there are some very talented people amongst them!

*Sorry - too excited to find an image to post with this!......broke my first rule already! Oh well am sure it wont be the last!

Yet another nerve racking venture into the unkown world of blogging (for me anyway!). It feels a bit scary to be "out there". (This weeks topic was "juggle".)
* If you can't quite work this one out, it's a dog in a dinosaur costume.....?! I don't know why - it just seemed cute at the time.

ACTUALLY HAND OUT ANY PROMOTIONAL FLYERS MADE FOR A SPECIFIC OCCASION! I made these lovely self promoting flyers especially to inform and convince my potential new "clients" about all of the wonderful things I could offer their business and forgot to actually hand them out!

That said, things went very well actually! The best thing is that I got a wonderful "vibe" from them as being lovely people! I know that some of you would argue that it's not about being "nice", but it's all about business -but it's REALLY important to me to be working with great people. It makes the job more rewarding, and it really motivates and inspires me to do good work for them. I also think it creates more potential to build a long term working relationship.

Must dash - just had an SOS call from my gorgie (gorgeous) bike-riding-to-work husband who needs me to pick him up, following a mechanical issue with the it has also started raining I thought it's the least I could do! Don't you love the flexibility of working from home!

I KNOW - were you sitting down?! Two posts in two days! AND I have managed to have a play around with the templates and have added some new information! I am out of control I tell ya!!
Anyway - today was a bit of a "get organised" day. Spent the morning finishing off a few alterations to some line art illustrations for a book project I am working on, and then moved onto reviewing my folio.

I am a bit excited about a meeting I have lined up for tomorrow with a "new" baby apparel company. (Well when I say "new" I mean a potential "new customer" for me.)

I have been doing some research and preparing my folio to suit their requirements. Their style is a little bit more subdued than most of my folio so it's a question of convincing them that I can adapt to the brief. Then of course there is the small matter of me answering an ad for a FULL TIME position when I will be offering my services on a freelance basis! (I know, I know - stop shouting, I hear you!) But they already know that and were still prepared to make time to see me, so *"seize the day" if you will.

*Quote blatently stolen from one of my favourite movies "Dead Poets Society", and yes I should have been brave enough to attempt the latin version of the line which would have had more impact, for those of you who have seen it!

Well this it too weird! I have been thinking about setting up a blog for ages, but obviously have never done anything about it! Now that I have done it I am a bit excited, but mostly TERRIFIED! I stumbled on this whole "blog" thing a little later than most, so I feel like I have HEAPS to learn - and what better way than just getting in there and having a go!!

I have read HEAPS of "FIRST POSTS" from lots of blogs to get an idea of how to start, but at the end of the day, I guess you just have to jump in there.

So basically I am a freelance illustrator ("slash" designer!) specialising in children's product design. I work out of my home based studio in Melbourne and am pretty passionate about what I do! I love all the colour and fun that the children's market promotes and I hope to share a glimpse of what inspires and motivates me through this blog.

I have a gorgeous husband and a slightly "handicapped" dog, who obviously play a big part in life, so no doubt they will get regular mentions in this blog too - so it's not all work! I hope to get involved in the "Illustration Friday" stuff that I have been learning about on blogs, so I guess my first test will be whether or not I can get started on that this week! Stay tuned! And welcome to my journey!
